The CEM SC-05 sound level calibrator provides a reference point for sound level meters with a 1/2-inch microphone. Two calibration levels — 94 dB and 114 dB — allow the accuracy of instruments working at both low and high noise levels to be checked. Its portable, robust housing suits field measurements, industrial site inspections and occupational safety work.
The instrument complies with IEC 60942:2018 Class 2. This certifies that the reference sound levels it produces (94 dB and 114 dB) and the frequency (1 kHz) fall within internationally accepted tolerances. Class 2 is the standard required for general-purpose field measurements, occupational safety inspections and environmental noise monitoring.
Two sound pressure levels are provided at 1 kHz: 94 dB and 114 dB. The two-level system makes it possible to check how the sound level meter responds at different points of its measuring range. 94 dB is generally used for standard ambient noise and low-level measurements, while 114 dB verifies measurements made in noisier industrial environments.
The unit is designed for field use. Its compact size, light housing and carrying case make it easy to move between measurement sites. Operation is simple: a single button switches between the 94 dB and 114 dB levels or turns the unit off. An automatic shut-off preserves battery life.
The SC-05 is compatible with all sound level meters using a standard 1/2-inch condenser microphone. With an optional 1-inch adapter it can also be used with 1-inch microphones.
The unit runs on a standard 9 V alkaline battery. Low power consumption gives a long battery life, and an LED indicator warns when the battery runs low. The battery is changed through the cover on the back of the unit.
